🚨 NATIONAL PRESS: HARTLEPOOL RANKS AMONG THE HIGHEST IN THE COUNTRY FOR ASYLUM SEEKERS IN 2024 🚨
Labour has now held leadership at Hartlepool Borough Council for nearly a year. One of the most dramatic changes we've seen is a huge rise in the number of asylum seekers arriving in our town.
Under the previous Conservative and Independent Coalition, the figures were much lower:
2023 – 35 asylum seekers per 10,000 head of population
Under the new Labour leadership, the numbers have soared:
2024 – 49 asylum seekers per 10,000 head of population
📈 A staggering increase! 📈
To put this into perspective, Coventry, a city with a population of 360,700, has 60 asylum seekers per 10,000 head of population. That's a city almost four times the size of Hartlepool, yet our town is catching up at an alarming rate!
According to a recent article in the Daily Mail, Hartlepool's surge in asylum seeker numbers has placed it among the top ten towns in the country for such statistics.
